Univerbal develops a personalized AI language tutor that helps users learn a new language through real conversation practice.
Language learners can discuss any topic with their tutor that adjusts in real time and provides feedback after every message and conversation. Based on their level, preferences, individual strengths and weaknesses, the AI language learning app provides users with personalized exercises, scenarios and feedback to improve fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
Univerbal is backed by Y Combinator and is an ETH spin-off. The teaching method is developed in cooperation with language researchers from ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.

Univerbal Classroom helps businesses and language schools integrate the AI language learning app Univerbal into their employment training and student teaching. Univerbal helps users confidently speak a new language through conversational practice with an AI or an AI tutor. The learning experience is based on a CEFR-aligned study plan, developed with the language center of ETH/UZH.
The Classroom platform allows administrators to:
- Organize licences, manage billing, and group students into classrooms for easier bulk actions like assigning levels, languages and study plans.
- Craft custom study plans based on skills that are in line with their curricula and assign them to users.

Users receive instant feedback after every message, including corrections, explanations, and actionable tips. It also analyzes mistakes and vocabulary usage to identify skill gaps and continuously personalize the learning experience.
Univerbal also provides customized grammar and vocabulary exercises designed around each learner’s strengths and weaknesses to maximize progress in every session.
All learning activities are organized into a structured study plan, which learners can define and customize based on their interests, current proficiency, and the specific skills they want to develop.
